Engine power

Every boat has a power range recommended by the shipyard — we show it on each GRAND model page and in the “Match a motor to your boat” field above. A smaller motor saves fuel and is enough for relaxed cruising; a stronger one gets you on the plane quickly with a full load of passengers and luggage. Never exceed the maximum power on the boat’s capacity plate.

Shaft length

The shaft (the part of the motor from the mounting bracket to the anti-cavitation plate) is matched to the transom height. The letter at the end of the model name gives the shaft length:

Controls

Remote control — mechanical: throttle and shift by cables from the control lever on the console; electronic Drive-by-Wire (DEC): no cables, smooth shifting, Yamaha CL5 / CL7 displays. Steering — tiller on small engines; with remote control, mechanical or hydraulic fitted in the boat, or integrated in the engine: hydraulic (cylinder in the engine mount; with Drive-by-Wire — Helm Master EX Level 1, integrated hydraulic steering), electro-hydraulic (F150 / F200) or electric DES (V6 and XTO) — both for Helm Master EX Level 2–4 with joystick. Drive-by-Wire engines without integrated steering — Helm Master EX Bolt-on Level 2–4.

Starting and trim

Small motors are pull-started, larger ones have an electric starter (a battery is needed). Manual trim has a few fixed positions; power tilt (PT) makes it easy to raise the motor out of the water, and power trim and tilt (PTT) lets you change the motor angle while underway — for better planing and lower fuel use.

Special series

VMAX SHO — light motors with a sporty character. XTO Offshore — flagship V8s for large offshore boats. High Thrust — a higher gear ratio and a big propeller for heavy boats and workboats. LF / FL versions are counter-rotating — for twin installations with a standard-rotation motor.

Installation and warranty

At the GRAND BOATS Poland service centre in Łężyce we install the engine, do the rigging and choose the propeller. Yamaha engines are offered in cooperation with an authorised Yamaha dealer; the manufacturer warranty (3 years + 2 years extension, on Yamaha terms) is registered and carried out by an authorised Yamaha service. With a GRAND boat the engine costs less — the configurator applies a package discount.
