Licence-free boats
Without a powerboat licence you may helm a boat with an engine of up to 10 kW, about 13.6 hp. Among GRAND boats these are the smallest Silver Line tenders: with a 9.9 hp engine they plane with two or three people on board.

What the rules say
The 10 kW limit comes from Article 37a of the Polish Inland Navigation Act and the regulation on water tourism. The exemption for yachts up to 13 m and 75 kW only covers craft whose speed is limited by design to 15 km/h, which outboard RIBs do not meet. At sea further limits may apply, e.g. on distance from the shore, so check the current rules for your waters before setting out.
Which engine to choose
The usual choice is a 9.9 hp engine, the most powerful that fits the limit. For a tender 5–6 hp is enough. You will find each model's recommended power on its page and can choose the engine in the Yamaha engines section.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need a licence to drive a RIB?
No, with an engine of up to 10 kW (about 13.6 hp). The same tenders take stronger engines, e.g. the S370 N up to 30 hp, but then a powerboat licence is required. Full answer →
Does a licence-free boat have to be registered?
No, if it is up to 7.5 m long with an engine of up to 15 kW (about 20 hp). Registration is then voluntary, though useful e.g. when travelling abroad. Full answer →
How many people can a licence-free RIB take?
From 3 (S275) to 5 people (S370 N). With a small engine, carry fewer people so the boat gets on the plane. Full answer →
